The BIOTIN İzmir Event began with its first day hosted by the İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG) on September 8th. Participants were introduced to the advanced research infrastructure and laboratory facilities of IBG, gaining insight into the center’s cutting-edge capabilities in biotechnology and life sciences.
The visit started with a tour of IBG’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Unit, where participants learned about the center’s high-standard production and quality assurance processes for biomedical applications. The tour continued in Assoc. Prof. Serhat Tozburun’s Laboratory, where Dr. Tozburun shared insights into his recently funded projects, entrepreneurial initiatives, and ongoing research activities focusing on optical imaging and biomedical innovation.
Following the tour, Ozan Çağıl Deniz, Business Development and Commercialization Specialist at IBG and LifeArc Fellow, delivered an engaging session titled “Lab Bench To Business: Commercializing Biomedical Innovations”. In his presentation, Deniz shared valuable perspectives on how innovative scientific ideas can be transformed into real-world applications and marketable solutions, highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship and translational research in today’s scientific ecosystem.
The first day concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants explored pathways from academic research to commercialization and the potential impact of interdisciplinary collaboration.
